Woman charged in hit and run accident that seriously injured an elderly female

On the evening of 5/5/16, the Milford Police arrested and charged a 35yo Dover woman in connection with a hit and run accident that occurred at 1:30 am at a residence located in the 4000 block of North Sagamore Dr (Hearthstone Manor Development), that left a 66yo female victim seriously injured. Paula A. Gillespie (aka Paula A. Phillips) was charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree, Careless Driving and other traffic offenses. Investigation revealed that the 66yo female victim and a family member were inside of the garage standing next to a vehicle parked in the garage. During this time, Gillespie was operating a SUV at a high rate of speed in the development. Gillespie lost control of the SUV and crashed into the side of the garage/building causing the parked vehicle slide into the 66yo female victim pinning her between the vehicle and the wall of the garage. Gillespie then fled the area in her SUV. Milford Police Patrol Division, Milford Police K9 Division, Carlisle Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and City of Milford Building Inspection Personnel all responded to the accident scene. The 66yo female victim was extracted by Carlisle Fire Department and EMS and was transported Milford Bayhealth Hospital with a serious lower extremity injury. She was later transported to Christiana Care Hospital. Gillespie turned herself into the Milford Police Department on the evening of 5/5/16. Gillespie was arraigned and released on $1,000.00 unsecured bond.
