Ariana Hughes was arrested by Milford Police on February 21, 2017 as a result of a theft investigation.
On Monday February 20, 2017 Milford Police responded to a residence on Carlisle Lane in reference to a theft of a laptop computer complaint. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the victim who explained that she believed her niece Ariana Hughes stole her red 15 inch HP laptop computer, and informed Officers that it is valued at $299.00. She advised Officers on scene that the computer went missing on Saturday, February 18, 2017. The victim stated that Hughes was at her residence on that day, and she’s noticed that various items have gone missing at the residence when Hughes has been present. The victim explained that she suspects Hughes took the laptop and possibly has it at her boyfriends house. Hughes was not at the residence when Officer arrived on scene, but Officers did get her contact information, as well as her boyfriends information in order to follow up with both. The Investigating Officer was able to make contact with Hughes by phone. She denied any knowledge of the laptop. The Officer then made contact with Hughes’s boyfriend who stated that he received a red 15 inch HP laptop computer from Hughes as an early birthday gift over the weekend, but had no idea it was stolen. He then advised that he took the computer to a pawn shop to obtain a loan of $80.00 and was due to get the laptop back on Friday, February 24, 2017, after he paid the loan off. After verifying that the laptop computer was in fact the victims, the Investigating Officer obtained a warrant to arrest Ariana Hughes.
Hughes turned herself in at the Milford Police Department on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 without incident. She was charged with theft by false pretenses under 1500.00 and theft under $1,500.00 (Deprive a Person). She was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court #2, where bail was set at 1000.00 unsecured.
