Bicycle Violation Leads To Multiple Charges For Lewes Man

On 11.25.2017 Milford Police arrested a Lewes man after it was found he was wanted by the Sussex County Superior Court during a stop for a bicycle violation.  An officer on patrol in the area of South Washington Street and Southeast 3rd Street observed Jason D. Shaffer, 32 of Lewes, operating a bicycle, commit a violation of Milford City Ordinance.  A subsequent stop of Mr. Shaffer led to him providing the officer with an inaccurate name.  Further investigation determined his correct identification and the fact he was wanted by Sussex County Superior Court.  As officers attempted to take Mr. Shaffer into custody he actively resisted and then fled on foot.  After a foot pursuit Mr. Shaffer was eventually taken into custody.  A subsequent search of Mr. Shaffer located drug paraphernalia.  Mr. Shaffer has been charged with Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Impersonation, and Prohibited Use of Public Sidewalks by Bicycles.  Mr. Shaffer was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #3, where bail was set at $301.00 secured.  Mr. Shaffer was committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Sussex Correctional Institution.  Mr. Shaffer is scheduled to appear at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas on 11.28.2017 for an arraignment.  watermark
