Joint Operation With U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force Locates Wanted Man

On 12.06.2017 the Milford Police Department’s Drug Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force completed a search for a wanted Milford man with his apprehension in an apartment in the Brightway Commons apartment complex.  On 12.06.2017 at approximately 10:21 am the Milford Police Department’s Drug Unit and members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force took custody of Maurice L. James, 35 of Milford, after the investigation led detectives to his location.  Mr. James was wanted by the Justice of the Peace Court #14, Kent County Superior Court, Sussex County Family Court, Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and by the Milford Police Department for two separate cases.   The first of the two warrants was obtained after Mr. James fled from a vehicle on foot which was stopped by a Milford Officer in 2014.  The second of the two was obtained following an investigation into a January of 2015 assault.  A subsequent search after Mr. James was taken into custody located crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.  Mr. James has been charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Assault 3rd Degree, Offensive Touching, and Resisting Arrest.  Mr. James was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #2, where bail was set at $5000.00 secured for the cases associated with the Milford Police warrants, $33,000.00 cash only for the Sussex Family Court capias, $500.00 for the Justice of the Peace Court #14 capias, $170.00 cash only for the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas capias, and $2500.00 secured for the Kent County Superior Court capias.  Mr. James has been committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Sussex Correctional Institution.  Ms. James is scheduled to appear at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on 12.22.2017.  Woodrow M. Lane Jr., 50 of Milford, was also contacted as Mr. James was being taken into custody and a subsequent search found him to be in possession of crack cocaine.  Mr. Lane has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Mr. Lane was issued a criminal summons and is scheduled to appear at the Justice of the Peace Court #6 in January for an arraignment.
