Division Organization & Responsibilities
Officers assigned to the Patrol Division are Milford Police Department’s first line criminal investigators, social mediators, and community relations.  Our Patrol Division is broken into four shifts, each are commanded by a Sergeant.  Our Patrol Shift Commanders are: Sgt. Micheal McMillan, Sgt. Dwight Young, Sgt. Matthew Smith and Sgt. Timothy Lord.

Depending on the day to day assignment, the officers assigned to the patrol division are on a schedule of 12-hour shifts, 10-hours shifts or 8-hours shifts.  These overlapping shifts are inplace to ensure the safety of the citizens of Milford 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Officers assigned to each shift are cross-trained in:

  • Accident investigation
  • Bicycle and motorcycle patrol techniques
  • Electronic surveillance
  • Domestic Violence Investiations
  • Property Crimes
  • DUI Detection
  • Crimes against person(s)
  • Traffic Interdiction
  • Evidence collection
  • Photography
  • And a variety of other special skills

Officers are also trained to make the community policing concept a focus when patrolling.
